Brunswick Housing Coalition Guiding Principles for Workforce/Affordable Housing In Brunswick County   The Brunswick Housing Coalition is a community based advocate and promotes a continuum of "workforce housing" in Brunswick County. The Coalition is facilitated by Brunswick Housing Opportunities.   We believe that HOME is a safe, decent, healthy place to live, share, grow and a basic need that should be made available to all.   1.      Educate the Community. ·         The Education of the Community is imperative to ensure they are engaged in the development of public policies that affect their lives. ·         Using Education and Communication to balance rights of property owners with rights of the Community. 2.      Promote Environmental Responsibility. ·         We must conscientiously guard our way of life that uniquely makes us Brunswick. ·         The use of renewable, environmentally friendly and recycled building products, methods and designs should be a goal for all housing built in the county. ·         The incorporation of Green Building products, methods, techniques and innovation when feasible should be a goal for all housing built in the county. 3.      Promote Sustainable Economic Development. ·         The effective and efficient use of land, money and resources must become a shared value and reflected in housing policy throughout Brunswick County. 4.      Provide for Creative, Innovative Community Design. ·         The perception and conception of affordable housing must be balanced and include open spaces, conservation, low impact development, attractiveness, innovation, energy efficiency, accessibility and amenities. 5.      Promote Community Diversity. ·         A balanced mix of housing types must be available in all Communities and in all regions of the County. ·         To advocate for homeownership, affordable rentals and maintaining and stabilizing existing housing stock. 6.      Provide a link and resources for the workforce of Brunswick County to access available affordable housing. 7.      Maintain the sense of Inter-Generational Community Living, by promoting a sense of place and community in all Neighborhoods.   YES!
