Brunswick Housing Opportunities (BHO) has three primary housing functions:
- Brunswick Housing Coalition - Community Voice for Advocacy and Change
- HOMEWARD BOUND - Housing Counseling Services
- Building the Future – Non-Profit Developer/Builder of Affordable Housing
Brunswick Housing Coalition:
The Community Voice of Housing
The Brunswick Housing Coalition advocates educates and promotes a continuum of housing in Brunswick County. We perform direct action organizing that work towards the vision of economically and culturally diverse neighborhoods. Coalition members are housing professionals, businesses, financial institutions, local government staff, elected officials and concerned citizens.
Our specific tasks include:
(1) Advocate and promote affordable housing in all communities in Brunswick County.
(2) Promote education and training about housing issues to the employers, housing professionals, the community and the governmental sector.
(3) Provide links and resources to available workforce housing for those seeking housing in Brunswick County.

Homeward Bound:
Housing Counseling Services
HOMEWARD BOUND, Housing Counseling Services is designed to work with the essential workers of Brunswick County to guide them through the homebuying process. We assist consumers by:.

Money management, credit and budgeting training.

Group and one on one counseling by Certified Counselors.

Seting up and understanding your "living" budgeting

Develop a credit repair plan

Homeownership training
The Homebuyer Class guides the consumer through building a personalized “Housing Plan.” This includes a ‘reality check’, determining space, amenities the consumer wants and needs in a home, completing a mortgage application, choosing the right mortgage, choosing a real-estate agent, an attorney, closing documents and surviving the first year of homeownership. BHO also provides post-homeownership counseling to help the new homeowner make it through the first years, the most difficult of owning a home.
BHO also helps existing homeowners to mitigate foreclosures. The Housing Counselors also work with seniors as safeguards against predatory lending. Counseling services are FREE to income eligible customers.

Building the Future:
Nonprofit Builder and Developer
BHO collaborates with local developers and builders to increase the affordability of housing being developed. We are still developing this arm of the organization. Primarily we research and acquire resources that can aide in decreasing the sales price of affordable housing while increasing the value. This may be through collaboration, support, relationship or advocating for a particular development.the developer.
BHO will take on the projects that may be of significant community benefit and a for-profit developer is unwilling to accept. Collaborating with other non-profits we hope to advocate for the building of domestic violence shelters, transitional and senior housing throughout the county. BHO is now in the process of building the Development Review Group and reviewing the process and procedure by which the endorsement will be awarded. This program will be available to the public in Winter of 2008.
